June Green Cash Mob: Sustainable Seafood

Seafood in the desert is more sustainable than you think, thanks to local restaurateurs who continue to put ingredients first when they are building their menus.  As awareness builds around the pressing threats that the world’s oceans and fisheries are facing, we see independent food and dining destinations taking the responsibility to be part of the solution.

This month, we are issuing a call to action for Arizonans to support businesses that are leading the charge in responsible sourcing of the fish that ends up on our plates. On Chefs for Fish Night on June 14th, participating restaurants will be serving U.S. caught fish that is green listed on Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Seafood Watch program. Green listed fish are species that are well managed and caught or farmed in ways that cause little harm to habitats or other wildlife. Participating restaurants include:

June 14th, Chefs for Fish Night: This event focuses on celebrating sustainable U.S. wild-caught seafood, in support of the successful fisheries management law, the Magnuson Stevens Act.

The Breadfruit, Phoenix. Serving Brown Stew Fish with Blue catfish from Maryland / Chesapeake caught via gillnet; Curried White Fish (Sable fish) from Oregon caught in pots; Red Stripe Curried Shrimp with Arizona Sweet Shrimp; Jerk Shrimp & Johnny Cakes with Arizona Sweet Shrimp
