COMMUNITY OUTREACH MANAGER
FOR LOCAL FIRST ARIZONA
Shelby has lived in seven different cities, but didn’t find her home until she moved to Tucson in 2010. Shelby and her partner have two big dogs––Cola and Benji––which she spends most of her free time hiking and snuggling with. When Shelby is not covered in dog fur, you can find her practicing at her favorite yoga studio, cooking locally sourced produce, and biking around Tucson’s historic neighborhoods.
Hometown: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
What I love about Arizona:
I love the many diverse hiking trails in Arizona. Its diverse landscape has enabled me to hike through canyons, up mountains, and into a forest of saguaros; each trail offers a different variety of challenge, beauty, and connection with nature.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Politics, Philosophy, Economics, and Law from the University of Arizona
- Food writer, photographer, and editor at Edible Baja Arizona
Watching This is Us. I cringe at least ten times an episode, but something keeps me coming back to watch it every week.
Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver/ The Office/ Mrs. Doubtfire.
Favorite local business:
Tucson CSA. The people at Tucson CSA were instrumental in teaching me about the importance of eating local and seasonal produce. Their commitment to teaching the community how to support local farms is helping to foster a community around local agriculture.
Food! I spend a great deal of time thinking about food––where it comes from, who grew it, and how I can eat it. In fact, I can’t remember the last time I read a book that wasn’t about food.
