Hispanic Entrepreneurs Graduate from New Accelerator Program
Fuerza Local Business Accelerator continues to advance opportunities in Tucson

Tucson, AZ (July 12, 2019) - 12 new Hispanic businesses will be recognized as the second generation of graduates from the program, Acelerador de Negocios de Fuerza Local, (Translation: Fuerza Local Business Accelerator). The graduation will take place on Thursday, July 25, 2019, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Consulate of Mexico in Tucson. Acelerador de Negocios de Fuerza Local is a six-month business program for Hispanic entrepreneurs providing expertise and necessary tools to succeed in Arizona, at no cost to participants.

During the program, entrepreneurs learn the fundamentals to launch or develop their business and create a solid foundation for their objectives. The classes are completely taught in Spanish by professionals and experts in their respective industry ranging from accounting to social media and marketing to human resources and many more.  The classes help give the participants the opportunity to learn from some of the best in state in their native language.

”Fuerza Local is an intense program similar to a Masters in Business Administration where it covers the necessary concepts on how to run a business. The camaraderie and motivation to keep going is contagious, ” says Mara Castro of Mis Manos Montessori School and current student in the program.

Graduates also gain important financial literacy by participating in an online lending circle called eMoneyPool.  It requires them to make on-time payments during the duration of the program. These payments then report back to Experian, helping build a credit history and ultimately teaching students the importance of saving and credit, which in some cases is a first for these micro business owners.

The large part of the program’s success in southern Arizona is due the collaboration between Local First Arizona Foundation and Vib’n.  Fuerza Local provides the tools and Vib’n provides the mindset and perspective on how to utilize them. Paul Mendoza and Hector Treto are the Directors of Fuerza Local in southern Arizona and the Co-Founders & Creators of Vib’n.

“The Fuerza Local Business Accelerator is the first entrepreneurial training program in the country to create a pathway into mainstream banking for Hispanic business owners by developing credit history among members of this largely under-served population using traditional money pool practices to strengthen their businesses,” says Michael Peel, Southern Arizona Director for Local First Arizona, “The program expansion in Southern Arizona in partnership with Vib’n adds great potential to support many businesses to grow and strengthen the local economy.”

392 business owners have finished the program since its launch in 2014 and graduates from the program have gone on to generate more than $6.2 million in net sales in 2018 alone.

"It’s an incredible program because it empowers Hispanic entrepreneurs with the tools to help grow their business in ways they never thought possible,” says Hector Treto and Paul Mendoza, Co-Founders of Vib’n, “The most effective part of the accelerator is not just the education and mentors but the aspect of building community because twelve entrepreneurs enter, and at the end they leave as one family - a support network that is always available to help each other. It really opens their mind to new opportunities.”

The community is invited to celebrate the second generation’s accomplishments on Thursday, July 25th from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Consulate of Mexico in Tucson (3915 E Broadway Blvd, Tucson, AZ 85711). The event is open to the public and will include an expo featuring the graduating class, networking, and ceremony.

“When you pair education and community together the result will make a greater impact on strengthening the economy over time, “ says Treto and Mendoza, “We are extremely grateful to be a part of this program, to be able to collaborate with Local First Arizona and look forward to seeing the impact and growth that these individuals have as they continue to pour their passion into their business."
