Winos for Rhinos and More at Wine Gone Wild
This post guest written by LFA Outreach Intern, Celeste Colmenares
Our very own Reid Park Zoo is going wild for wine this Friday, April 7, 2017 6:00 pm — 8:30 pm! Enjoy live music, samples of delicious food, animal encounters, and most importantly samples of some wonderful Arizona wines at the 2017 Wine Gone Wild event. "Wine Gone Wild is important for two reasons.," says Marketing Director, Clara Cobb, "One, this fun, tax-deductible evening helps the Zoo Project Fund. This fund allows the Zoo to bring new animals to the Zoo, like the new meerkat habitat, and also helps with much needed improvements to existing habitats for the animals. The second is that this allows adults a chance to enjoy the Zoo in a different way, and to interact with animals in a naturalistic environment in way they may not otherwise experience."
Did you know wine growers have found their home right here in Arizona? Here are some things you should know about Arizona wine country - three regions in Arizona are growing grapes for wine: Sonoita, Willcox, and the Verde Valley. Arizona provides perfect climate, elevation and weather to create the best wine making fruit. Arizona wines are some of the best wines produced in our country, they are world-class, authentic and local. At the Wine Gone Wild event you'll have the opportunity to sample some of the Southern Arizona local vineyards including Sonoita Vineyards, Zarpara Vineyard, Kief-Joshua Vineyards, Golden Rule Vineyards and more.
Arizona began to experience exponential growth in 2001 when wine production in the state increased nearly 700 percent in the 14 years since. This is well above the national average. There are more than 80 bonded wineries and 1,000 acres of planted vines. There are nearly 40 licensed tasting rooms in Arizona that generate nearly 140,000 visits annually. This positively influences our Arizona economy. There has never been a better time to experience Arizona wines and Reid Park Zoo's Wine Gone Wild is the perfect event for it.
In addition to sampling from over a dozen wineries and distillers, the event includes a menu of delicious bites includingMini Caprese Bites, Fruit Cups drizzled with a creamy moscato creme sauce, Red Wine Brascato served over savory Summer Succotash, Gruyere & White Wine Penne Mac & Chees, Brie & Raspberry Jam Mini Grilled Chees and Vanilla Bean Mini Cupcakes with Pinot Noir Berry Compote. The event is a wine lovers dream. Also included with each ticket is a commemorative wine sampling glass, activities and animal encounters, live music by Santa Pachita and wine glass painting with Creative Juice. If you are in need of some extra pampering, treat yourself to a mini massage from Tucson Family Wellness, samples from Mary Kay or a glitter tattoo.
There is even a VIP “Winos for Rhinos” Package which gets you the opportunity to get up close and personal with one of Reid Park Zoo’s rhinos and learn more about conservation efforts in the wild. The VIP Package includes everything above and an exclusive “Winos for Rhinos” t-shirt and bottle of wine.
Best of all, is that all profits go to our zoo animals new, state-of-the-art Health Center.
"Reid Park Zoo is truly built by and supported by the community," comments Cobb. "Whenever possible, we support the local businesses and the community that supports the Zoo. Reid Park Zoo is truly Tucson's Zoo! This is just another great example of how we continue to support the community that gives so much to us and the more than 500,000 guests who visit the animals we love annually."
