Recognizing Groundbreaking Projects in Sustainability
Arizona Forward’s vision for the state is to “lead the nation in sustainable economic growth while reducing our impact on the environment and attracting visitors and residents alike to our world renowned natural and built amenities.” In order to recognize those leading the charge in this mission, the organization holds the Environmental Excellence Awards where cities, municipalities, builders, nonprofits and essentially anyone working on building sustainable communities can enter their projects and be recognized. Held in early September, this event drew hundreds of engaged community members and city leaders to view submitted projects and see the winners unveiled.
Cities from across the state, from Safford to the Grand Canyon, were represented for their incredible projects with winners determined by a wide panel of jurists from the architecture, education, policy and energy industries. The three biggest awards were coincidentally given to projects in northern, southern and central Arizona:
• SRP AWARD FOR ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP: Tucson Water’s Conservation and Education Program
• PRESIDENT’S AWARD: Northern Arizona University International Pavilion
• GOVERNOR’S AWARD ARIZONA’S FUTURE: Tempe Grease Cooperative
Congratulations to the winners and all who submitted their projects. It’s inspiring to see so much good work being done across Arizona, and to recognize the impact that thoughtful buildings and programs are having on our citizens, our landscape and our quality of life.
