4th Annual Cottonwood Historic Home and Building Tour
The City of Cottonwood and the Cottonwood Historic Preservation Commission host the 4th annual Cottonwood Historic Home & Building Tour:
Saturday, November 4, 2017
10 AM to 3 PM
This tour exhibits diverse homes and buildings that helped provide the foundation for Cottonwood’s early days as a mining and agricultural community. It also uncovers some of the areas secrets about prohibition and stories of area bootleggers. Docents and exhibits at each stop will provide a history of the buildings and will help you discover the societal history that is a part of each building’s four walls. Transportation will be provided between the Old Town Center for the Arts, the event's headquarters, and various tour stops. Tour participants can choose to walk and/or drive to the tour stops.
Historic Preservation in Rural AZ
ALL proceeds from the Cottonwood Historic Home and Building Tour go toward preservation of landmarked properties in Cottonwood through the Cottonwood Historic Preservation Commission’s small grant program.
The Program is administered by the Historic Preservation Commission to help beautify and preserve historic homes in Cottonwood. Landmarked property owners are eligible to apply for up to 50% of the total project cost to fund repairs on their historic home. Repairs and maintenance can include things like a new roof, paint jobs, or restoring historic elements that are missing or damaged to the home. There are other similar programs across the state, most of which are funded through tax subsidies from local municipalities. Cottonwood's Matching Grant Program is funded solely through the sales of Home Tour tickets. This keeps money in the community and furthers the historic goals of the town. This program is a great way to beautify neighborhoods and preserve Cottonwood's historic character.
