City of Phoenix Recycling Program Certification Now Avaliable

The City of Phoenix has developed a new Green Business Leader Recycling Program in order to help businesses in Phoenix to reduce the amount of waste they send to the landfill. This certification is a new program provided by the Public Works Department that encourages and recognizes businesses that operate in a more environmentally responsible or sustainable manner by recycling. The program is part of the City’s Reimagine Phoenix initiative, which has a goal to reduce Phoenix’s waste diversion to 40 percent by the year 2020.

The program is free of charge and is open to business that have a minimum of two employees and is not home-based. In order for a business to be eligible for the certification they must be located within Phoenix city limits, and the business must utilize a single stream recycling program. The Green Business Leader Recycling Program focuses primarily on a business’s recycling procedures and evaluates their habits through a recycling audit and report that in turn is used to evaluate the business for the certification.

The Green Business Leader Recycling Program is an excellent way for a business to display to customers and community members that it is dedicated to working towards sustainable and environmentally conscious initiatives as well as proper recycling and trash diversion procedures.  The Local First Arizona Phoenix office recently became the first certified business and is proud to be an advocate for this program.

In order to apply for the Green Business Leader Recycling Program, businesses can start the process by filling out a short questionnaire on the City of Phoenix website here. You’ll then be contacted by a member of the Public Works staff and your business will be on its way to becoming recognized for helping Phoenix become a more sustainable city.
