Local First AZ Gift Giving Guide: Glendale
Local First Arizona recruited help from a number of cities in Arizona to compile a list of gift giving ideas to inspire you to think outside the (big) box this holiday season and shop locally statewide. Each gift guide is separated by city and a complete list of the cities that have a gift giving guide can be viewed here.
Downtown Glendale has been a long term holiday staple for those living in and around Phoenix because of Glendale Glitters and it has many great independently owned shops to spoil everyone on your list. This city is under an hour from Phoenix depending on where you live, 2 hours from Flagstaff, and 2 hours from Tucson.
Historic Downtown Glendale has been named by USA Today & Sunset Magazine as one of the country's ten best places for shopping. Historic Downtown Glendale is actually two neighborhoods - Historic Catlin Court with its white picket fences and mature shade trees welcoming visitors to the bungalows-turned-specialty shops, Old Towne boasting brick-trimmed sidewalks and glowing gaslights leading the way to the famous antique stores and ethnic eateries and hometown festivals.
What is more synonymous with the magic of holiday lights in the Valley of the Sun than Glendale Glitters? Glendale’s award-winning holiday festival has become a family tradition across the Valley and state, and this year the 22nd annual celebration kicks off Friday, Nov. 27 and Saturday, Nov. 28, from 5-10 p.m. each evening. Glendale Glitters holiday light display concludes with a rockin’ block party, Glendale Glitter and Glow, on Jan. 9, from 4-10 p.m. The dazzling scene of vibrant glowing colors and twinkling lights, combined with more than 20 glowing hot air balloons, musical performances and delicious food and beverages, will be a feast for the senses!
A great way to explore Historic Downtown Glendale is with a personalized tour with Arizona Ron. Ron Brewster grew up in Glendale and has called Glendale home for 60 years. His childhood home is now the famous Spicery Tearoom! Take a trip back in time to the early beginnings of Glendale, with someone who can tell you the stories!
