New England style cameraderie under the Southwest sunset
If a cozy living room with a cold beer and a hot cup of clam “chowda” is where you would like to be, Jackson Tavern definitely fits the bill. Metzger Family Restaurants has brought the New England tavern experience to Tucson. "The tavern was a place where people congregated to conduct business over a light lunch, discuss the day's headlines over bottles of wine and glasses of ale and celebrate life's rich blessings over a hearty evening meal. The food was always fresh and flavorful, sourced from the day's catch, and an energy of community and camaraderie defined the atmosphere,” says owner Brian Metzger. That energy of community and camaraderie was well in evidence on the Jackson Tavern patio with over 80 folks gathered to share the latest news about local. Now, more than ever, it is important for us to come together as a community and talk about the ways we can support the local businesses around us. We had some great news to share on the local front! National data gathered by the ILSR showed that in 2014, across the country, local businesses beat the holiday performance of many national chains and respondents reported brisk sales in 2014, with revenue growing 8.1% on average in 2014, up from 5.3% the previous year. You can learn more about that data here. We also shared news about this year’s BALLE conference in Phoenix. Local First AZ is thrilled to be hosting this year’s localist conference. Described as “the Davos of Main Street” BALLE is an amazing opportunity to connect with local leaders Nationwide. Hear from some of the most innovative Localist leaders who are building the best entrepreneurial models in North America. These business leaders demonstrate that business as community, business as service, business as justice — and as life — works. We hope that many of our Southern Arizona local business leaders register here to attend this amazing event. On April 7th, Arizona Gives Day, Local First AZ will be raising money for scholarship funds so that entrepreneurs and local economy leaders from communities currently underrepresented in the Localism movement can also attend. Please support us on this day. Donations of any amount are appreciated!
We hope you can join us in the Dunbar Spring neighborhood of downtown Tucson for our next mixer at Originate Natural Building Materials showroom on April 1st. Please RSVP in advance by registering here for the mixer.
Thank you to all the businesses in attendance!
