National Food Day: A Call to Action
In just ten days, Local First Arizona will join the nationwide day of action that is National Food Day (NFD). October 24th marks Food Day 2013, an event that celebrates healthy, affordable, and sustainably produced food! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O721Fvj075c (View more videos about NFD here)
NFD will be celebrated locally, with over 2,000 events hosted across the nation. The priorities of National Food Day are:
- To promote safer, healthier diets - To support sustainable and organic farms - To reduce hunger - To reform factory farms to protect the environment and farm animals - To support fair working conditions for food and farm workers
In Arizona, there will be seven different events across the state in honor of National Food Day:
- LFA will be at Food Day Phoenix: Get Growing Get Healthy Eat Real in Phoenix, at Cesar Chavez Plaza—where we will raffle off over $600 worth of CSA shares! - East Valley Food Day—EAT REAL: How Local Can You Grow? In Chandler - Phoenix College Food Day Community Fair and Brown Bag Picnic in Phoenix, at Phoenix College - Food Day at Desert Mission Food Bank in Phoenix, at the John C Lincoln North Mountain Campus - U of A Food Day Fair in Tucson - Promoting Healthy Eating at School in Prescott - Food for Life: Cancer Project Series in Yuma
