Independents Week 2012 Wrap Up
What a week Independents Week turned out to be! We wanted to take a moment to share with you some of the great accomplishments we were able to reach this year:
Indie Week Cash Mobs
Local First Arizona sponsored 3 cash mobs throughout the state to promote Independents Week. We were in Glendale at Papa Ed's Ice Cream and The Country Maiden, at Lo Fi Coffee in downtown Mesa, and at the Old Town Farmers Market in Cottonwood. All three were very well attended, and we distributed a ton of Golden Coupons!
Handing out Golden Coupons everywhere!
Local First Arizona staff and volunteers were everywhere handing out Golden Coupons, including the Phoenix Public Market, the Mesa Community Farmers Market, the Scottsdale Art Walk, Social Media Day, and our cash mobs. We also had many of our members help distribute electronic Golden Coupons to their employees and customers. Thanks to APS, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Bunky Boutique, The Phoenix Zoo, Changing Hands Bookstore, Devious Wigs & Things, Frances & Smeeks, La Bocca Urban Pizzeria & Wine Bar, here on the corner, SCF Arizona, and the Duck & Decanter.
Incredible Media Coverage
Independents Week was covered by The Arizona Republic, Images AZ, Moon Valley Tattler, Jewish News of Greater Phoenix, Downtown Phoenix Journal, Arizona Highways Magazine (blog), The East Valley Tribune, The Phoenix Business Journal, Ahwatukee Foothills News, Tucson Citizen, Phoenix New Times, Verde Independent, 92.3 KTAR-FM, Zocalo Magazine, TucsonSentinel.com, North Central News, CenPho.com, Jennyvi Dizon's Examiner Blog, About.com, Harpers Nursery & Rosie on the House, the Pat McMahon show on AZTV7.
We also held a press conference with Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton, who described what his perfect Indie Week would look like!
We would also like to thank Tucson Councilmembers Romero and Uhlich for recommending the Independents Week Proclamation for 2012 and to Mayor Rothschild and the entire council for signing off on that official document declaring the importance of all local businesses in Tucson!
Special thanks to 91.5 KJZZ-FM, who offered an Indie Week advertising package that gave LFA 60 bonus spots for a total of 300 mentions during Independents Week, resulting in 400,000 individuals hearing the words “Local First Arizona” 5 times!
Huge numbers for participation!
This year, Independents Week put up some huge numbers. We had 209 members accepting the Golden Coupon! And some of you reported a mob of consumers using the coupon--Changing Hands Bookstore received 309 coupons, Duck & Decanter received 57, and FEZ received 49 for the week.
Thank you to all of our participating members for making this year's Independents Week such a great success!
