Local First Arizona and Mayor Lunch Locally at Maizie’s Cafe for Indie Week
Phoenix, AZ (June 16, 2009) - National Independents Week officially launches on June 29 and runs through July 5, bringing Valley businesses and the community together for an impassioned effort to drive dollars into the local economy. On Wednesday, July 1, Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon will show his strong support of buying, and dining, locally during Indie Week at a special “Lunch Local” event held downtown at Maizie’s Cafe.
The Lunch Local event is open to the public and will take place from 11:30am to 12:30pm; Mayor Gordon will be in attendance between 11:45am and 12:30pm. To reciprocate their support and appreciation of Mayor Gordon, Maizie’s will offer a special dish during Indie Week named after the city leader.
"National Independents Week is a wonderful reminder about the economic, environmental and cultural benefits of supporting locally owned businesses," states Local First Director, Kimber Lanning. "Local businesses are the heart and soul of any great city, and Maizie's Cafe is a perfect example of a family-owned and operated business that is contributing to the vibrancy of our city."
The following morning on Thursday, July 2, the Mayor will venture out for his 3rd annual Coffee Crawl from 7:30 to 8:30am - visiting four local coffee houses in downtown Phoenix. Fair Trade Cafe, Copper Star Coffee, Lola Coffee and LUX Coffee Bar will welcome Mayor Gordon and local citizens who are encouraged to join in on the morning crawl.
Independents Week brings tremendous opportunity for both businesses and consumers. Participating local establishments from retail to restaurants will be accepting a special Golden Coupon worth 20% off purchases, a complete listing of which are displayed on the Local First website. Consumers can also “Take the Pledge” to go local for the week and view 10 Tips for Shopping Local to easily guide them through.
