Marathons, Home Tours, Grand Openings - Oh My!
The Verde Valley is brimming with events this weekend. We've put together this visitor's guide so you don't miss out on all the activities to choose from.
Brian Mickelsen Memorial Run (6:00 AM - 12:00 PM)
From its beginnings as a 10K and 2-mile race back in the early 1990's to its expansion in recent years to include a full marathon and half marathon, the Brian Mickelsen Memorial Run welcomes several hundred runners each year. Whether you are a spectator or runner, join the town on this fun, family-friendly run through Riverfront Park, Old Town Cottonwood, Tuzigoot National Monument, and Dead Horse Ranch State Park. - MORE
CLARKDALE Historic Home Tour (9:00 AM - 4:00 PM)
Each year the Clarkdale Historical Society & Museum hosts an opportunity to step back in time to the days of company houses built by the United Verde Copper Company between 1913 and 1930. Several historic homes and buildings will be open for the 2017 Annual Historic Building & Home Tour. - MORE
As per tradition, local actors will also be presenting a reenactment of the bold robbery of the Bank of Arizona, which occurred June 21, 1928. Arriving from Oklahoma & Nebraska, Willard Forrester and Earl Nelson attempted to rob the bank of the United Verde Copper Company payroll. Who really fired the fatal shot which brought the robbery to a climactic end? Famous lawman Jim Roberts or Bank Manager David Saunders? See photos and more by visiting Four Eight Wine Works, located in the historic bank building. You might try some locally made wine while exploring this landmark property.
Winery 101 Grand Opening (12:00 - 7:00 PM)
Old Town Cottonwood's newest tasting room is hosting their grand opening this weekend as well! Join Winery 101 for $3 glasses of white wine, $5 glasses of red wine, and 10% off bottle purchases all day. The ribbon cutting will take place at 3:30pm with live music from Nicki Park and Loser's Way Home following shortly after. Each bottle purchase enters you into the raffle to win a "wine-cation" in the Heart of Arizona Wine Country - including a one-night stay at the Tavern Hotel in Cottonwood, three wine tastings on Main Street, and a glass of wine at Winery 101. - MORE
