Sonoran Glass School’s annual Pumpkin Fiesta
Tucsonans can explore hundreds of colorful glass pumpkins, enjoy live glassblowing demonstrations and make fall-themed glass projects at Sonoran Glass School’s annual Pumpkin Fiesta on October 5 and 6 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Bales of hay and fall leaves will fill the gallery, where visitors can shop for seasonal glass art housewares and gifts in a festive fall atmosphere. The event takes place at Sonoran Glass School, 633 W. 18th St. near Barrio Viejo.
DESIGN AND CREATE YOUR OWN GLASS PUMPKIN One of the most popular activities during this two- day festival is the Make-Your-Own Pumpkin Experience. Guests pick colors and design elements and then work with SGS teaching artists to create their own glass pumpkin. Folks come year after year to add to their custom pumpkin collection and continue family traditions. This project is $95 and proceeds support the nonprofit Sonoran Glass School and its youth education programing. Walk-ins are welcome but reserving a time slot is highly recommended. Call 520-884-7814 to reserve your spot.
BROWSE COLORFUL GLASS PUMPKINS MADE BY PROFESSIONAL ARTISTS SGS artists have been working since early September on glass pumpkins of all colors, shapes, textures, and sizes. Among those produced are the 2019 Signature Series Pumpkins, which require several additional high-skill steps to craft. New to this year’s production are pumpkin cups, pitcher sets and fall leaf platters.
TORCHWORKING AND KILN-FIRING PROJECTS Sonoran Glass School offers several other opportunities to make glass art projects, giving attendees an exciting opportunity to experience this fascinating art form first-hand. Visitors work alongside our instructors in a safe and guided environment. Activities include Pumpkin Fridge Magnets ($10), Fused Halloween Characters ($15), Fall Leaf Drink Stirrers ($15) and Glass Pumpkins ($95). Most projects are appropriate for ages 5 and up.
FREE, LIVE GLASSBLOWING DEMONSTATION AT 1PM SGS artists will demonstrate the pumpkin making process and explain their techniques at 1PM on both Saturday and Sunday. The presentation is free to attend.
