The Arizona Wines of the Devoured Culinary Classic
The Devoured Culinary Classic, often called the premier culinary event in Arizona, has come and gone for 2016. But we can't stop thinking about all the delicious things we ate, sipped, noshed, nibbled, and slurped.
One of the highlights of the event is the amount of Arizona wines showcased every year. This year's Devoured Culinary Classic took no exception with a selection of some of the best Arizona wines currently available. Arizona wines have been making national headlines for the past few years for their excellence, some even calling Arizona the next Napa, California!
We are proud to have so many great wineries here in our home state producing award-winning and nationally recognized wines. Here's a taste of what was offered this year at the Devoured Culinary Classic:
Arizona Stronghold Vineyards - Arizona Stronghold Vineyards describes their wines as "the expression of the fierce and wild Arizona terrain." As one of the better known wineries in the state, Arizona Stronghold offers a range of varietals that are enjoyed at their tasting room in Cottonwood, Arizona. At Devoured, they were pouring their '13 Tazi (white blend), '14 Chardonnay, '13 Cabernet, and '14 Nachise (Rhone blend).
Caduceus Cellars - Perched on the side of the South East facing slopes of Jerome, Arizona, Caduceus Cellars & Merkin Vineyards is making high elevation wines out of predominantly Italian and Spanish varietals. At Devoured, they were pouring their '13 Lei Li Rose (Arizona Wine Growers Association Gold Medal Winner), '12 Primer Paso (Los Angeles International Wine Competition Silver Medal Winner), '13 Merkin Shinola (Los Angeles International Wine Competition Silver Medal Winner), and the '13 Dos Ladrones (San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition Gold Medal Winner).
Callaghan Vineyards - Established in 1990, born out of a love of European wines, Callaghan Vineyards is wholeheartedly committed to growing and producing the best possible wines in Sonoita, Arizona. As one of the older wineries in Arizona, Callaghan Vineyards wines have been served at the White House on three separate occasions. At Devoured, they were pouring their '14 Grenache Rose, '13 Grenache (Arizona Republic Wine Competition Silver Medal), '12 Padres Red Blend, and '13 Lisa's White Blend.
Dos Cabezas WineWorks - With two different vineyard locations in southern Arizona's high desert mountains, Dos Cabezas WineWorks is producing some of Arizona's favorite wines right now. Todd & Kelly Bostock, the owners and winemakers at Dos Cabezas, have been named among The San Francisco Chronicle's "10 Winemakers to Watch for 2015" At Devoured, they were pouring their '13 Toscano, '12 El Norte, '14 Meskeoli, and '15 Pink.
Page Springs Cellars - Page Springs Cellars is a family owned vineyard and winery crafting fine Arizona Wines tucked into the volcanic landscape overlooking pristine Oak Creek. Page Springs collaborates with several vineyards in varying locations and climates on a quest to secure quality fruit to make wines that are an expression of these places. At Devoured, they were pouring their '14 Barrio Blanca, '14 Barrio Rojo, '14 Mule's Mistake, and '14 MSGC.
Pillsbury Wine Company - Pillsbury Wine Company in Cottonwood, Arizona, offers a distinctive selection of wines produced exclusively in Arizona’s Cochise County. Their fine wines have won awards in national and local competitions, and are available for you to enjoy at their two wine tasting rooms in Cottonwood and Willcox. At Devoured, they poured quite a spread including their '14 WildChild White, '14 Chardonnay, '14 Chardonnay Reserve, '14 Viognier, '13 Symphony, '13 Symphony Goddess, '14 Chenin Blanc, '14 WildChild Red, '13 Roan Red, '13 Diva, '13 Petite Sirah, '13 Shiraz Reserve, and '13 Shiraz 'Guns and Kisses.'
Sand-Reckoner Vineyards - Located in the beautifully rugged high desert land of southern Arizona, the area provides tons of potential for Sand-Reckoner Vineyards. The vines must struggle, drawing from the terroir - the wind, the dramatic temperature swings, the limestone subsoils, the clear skies and the rumbling summer storms. At Devoured, they were pouring their '14 Malvasia, '12 'Z' Red, '13 W White, and '12 "2" Red Blend.
