City of Tucson Examines PTO Ordinance for Local Businesses

23307736065_65ea6d8af6_kThe City of Tucson Mayor & Council are looking to adopt a new ordinance, requiring that business within the city limits provide paid time off for employees. As a local business coalition, we want to make sure that our members are aware of important changes in the local business community and have all the information they need. The City of Tucson is looking for feedback about the proposed ordinance from the Tucson community. According to an article in the Arizona Daily Star, some of the proposals in the new ordinance state - Businesses would be required to give workers one hour of paid sick time for every 30 hours worked. Employees could begin to use earned sick time after 90 days of employment and could use up to 40 hours a year at a small business — one with fewer than 10 employees — or up to 56 hours per year at a larger businesses.

The City of Tucson is also hosting a series of public meetings for folks with questions about the proposed ordinance.
