A Phoenix Localist Survival Guide for “Force Awakens” Week

shoplocal.starwars We get it, Phoenix “Star Wars” fans, you have a rough week ahead of you.

After three years of constant, ruthless anticipation, the time between now and the December 18 premiere of “Episode VII” moves as slow as a space slug while you hide from an asteroid field of spoilers, clutch your opening night Harkins Cine Capri tickets and hope that BB-8 lives up to the adorable, adorable hype.

Meanwhile, employers expect you to be “productive,” friends expect “at least one non ‘Star Wars’ conversation” and strangers expect you to refrain from “muttered lightsaber sound effects” on your light rail commute.

It’s tough times, we know, but these local events will carry you to opening night, with one post-premiere chance to celebrate (or commiserate with disappointment) after you witness the debut of a GIANT FEMALE CHROME STORMTROOPER.

“Spaceballs” Screening

For fans who appreciate that the “Star Wars” galaxy is actually pretty absurd, filled with lanky bear-dogs who pilot smuggler ships, and space wizards who “force choke” via satellite. Laugh it up, fuzzball, as Cult Classics and Zia Records present the classic spoof “Spaceballs” featuring Dark Helmet, Princess Vespa and “The Schwartz.”

Details: 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12. Pollack Tempe Cinemas, 1825 E. Elliot Road. $11 for general admission; $20-$40 for VIP packages. cultclassicsaz.com

Details: 12-4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 13. All About Books and Comics, 24 W. Camelback Rd. Suite G, Phoenix. Free. allaboutbooksandcomics.com
