Mountain Sports Stays Active After Forty Years

This is a Northern Arizona Spotlight: Mountain Sports Flagstaff Mountain Sports LogoFor over four decades, Mountain Sports has been outfitting Arizonans with active-wear by providing dependable and knowledgeable service and products. Brothers Mark and Bruce Lamberson, first opened Mountain Sports in 1973 and soon expanded the business in 1980 to its current location on San Francisco Street in downtown Flagstaff.

Formerly of Wyoming, the Lamberson's moved to Flagstaff to expand their horizon in the outdoor sporting goods industry. “We quickly realized that this community, with its university and outdoor lifestyle – this was it. With our young family, Rosie and I and our two young children, Bret and Lisa, we came here in 1980.”

I was 21 and [Bruce] was 19. We started pretty young. I’m still doing it and he’s still doing it.”

Mountain Sports FlagstaffLoving the outdoors isn't just a hobby for this family, its a lifestyle and advocating for the environment is top priority. As a leading proprietor of Patagonia, Mountain Sports has joined their 1% for the Planet, an ongoing campaign where businesses can donate 1% of sales made by customers to conservation and environmental organizations and causes during Advocate Week in May.

Throughout the week, for every pair of Patagonia shoes sold, the store donates $20 toward an organization To date, Mountain Sports has donated more than $100,000 in the Flagstaff community. But it's more than just donating dollars for Mountain Sports, “Over that two-week period, we’ll have 2,000 people walk through our door,” said Mark Lamberson. “That’s the education opportunity.”

And, through our membership in One Percent for the Planet, we’re able to honor our personal and our customers’ ethos of a strong and connected community."

After forty great years, it seems this family owned and operated community gathering space we call Mountain Sports isn't slowing down one bit. “We’ve stood the test of time,” Mark says, “We use that as a big part of our decision making for the business needs and for the community needs.” We look forward to celebrating the next forty years of supporting Local. Life. Style.
