When Chef Chris McKinley, previously at Atlas Bistro, and Adam Hargett, former general manager at Merc Bar, decided to open their restaurant together, they found the perfect location in the Roosevelt Row (RoRo) Arts District.
As soon as you step inside, you can't help but notice the view into the kitchen area. The cutout window gives guests a sneak peek into the bustling scene, always in motion. Across from the kitchen is the bar/lounge with a comfortable seating area to easily enjoy a few libations with friends.
The feeling of openness inside The Local is relaxing, effortless.
Retractable glass doors line the entire front of the building, allowing for amazing amounts of natural light and great views. When pulled open, they provide passersby with an unavoidable aromatic invitation of savory delights.
McKinley’s menu can be described as ‘contemporary American’, which basically translates to timeless favorites done better. Dishes like Crispy Pig Ear Pad Thai, Marquez Stuffed Quail, and Roman Style Gnocchi are among the flavorful combinations you’ll find here.
Along with culinary creations, Adam Hargett is keeping cocktail lovers happy with homemade mixers, fresh ingredients and local liquors.
Just last month we got a firsthand taste of Hargett's cocktail talent at our Independent's Week Pub Crawl, where he was delighting drinkers with a tasty 'Peach Collins', The Local's twist on the traditional Tom Collins.
“It’s targeted toward the foodies,” McKinley said. “We want people to feel comfortable. People can have a cocktail wearing shorts and T-shirt and still eat bone marrow and head cheese.”
Speaking as a patron who has dined here in shorts while enjoying a delicious cocktail, they've certainly hit the mark! Don't miss this month's meet up getting to know the new neighbors on RoRo's block, The Local. Click here to RSVP
