National Farmers Market Week, August 3-9
This article was written by past Local Food Program Director, Steve Russell.
From August 3rd – 9th, communities across the nation will celebrate by visiting their neighborhood markets for special events and interactive experiences.
National Farmers Market Week (NFMW) could not fall at a better time in Arizona. The summer slows down parts of our economy, so NFMW provides a timely boost! Farmers’ Markets are an integral piece of the local food economy, because they provide a space for small growers and food artisans to sell their wares at a reasonable profit margin.
Read below to check out what some of our member markets are up to this year:

Downtown Phoenix Public Market At both Wednesday and Saturday this week, The Downtown Phoenix Public Market will host a “Love Board” where patrons can post love notes to their farmers, as a way to say thanks! The market will also highlight each farmer on the Market’s Facebook page throughout the week, so stay tuned! OH and did I mention the contest for $25 Market Bucks?? The market team’s favorite Farmers’ Market selfie wins the prize!
