“Arizona’s Christmas City” reminds us why supporting community is so important
From the World’s Largest Gingerbread Village, to the ever-popular Acker Night Music Showcase, to Elves Weekend, this is when Prescott festively transforms into “Arizona’s Christmas City,” a designation made official by the State of Arizona. With its beautiful Courthouse Plaza and the famous Whiskey Row, Prescott…er, Christmas City brings a refreshingly unique old-fashioned feel to the holiday season. Also dubbed “Everybody’s Hometown” because Prescott retains so much of the charm of America’s Main Streets, this city celebrates many historic traditions. Chief among them are the 31st Annual Christmas Parade and the 59th Annual Courthouse Lighting, which begin tomorrow, Saturday, December 7th. The parade is from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm, with the Courthouse Lighting following at 6:00 pm. This is a great opportunity to celebrate the holiday season with family, friends, and neighbors. And while you’re there, be sure to stop by the many stores downtown for a bit of holiday shopping. Local First Arizona member, Prescott Downtown Partnership, is a great resource for news and information about Prescott’s downtown businesses.
With all the shopping, gift-wrapping, holiday baking and other hustle and bustle, you might also need a night away from the kitchen. Why not enjoy a nice meal out with the family before the real holiday madness sets in? Prescott Area of Independents, also an LFA member, is a coalition of locally owned bars and restaurants, many of which are sure to be featuring at least one seasonal treat or holiday special you simply can’t pass up.
So what makes Christmastime in Christmas City so amazing? True to any great tradition, Prescott’s old-fashioned approach to the holiday season is rooted in its unique, diverse, local treasures, which are best supported when we invest in our community by keeping our dollars local. This is exactly why “Arizona’s Christmas City” reminds us why supporting our local Arizona communities is so, so important.
