Independents Week When: June 30 - July 7 Where: Local businesses around Arizona! Cost: 20% discount at participating businesses! While we're thinking about celebrating the foundations of America that make this country great, we should especially celebrate our local business community. Responsible for local job creation and community involvement, our local businesses are the backbone of this country and we have a lot to thank them for. Ahwatukee Red White & Boom Fireworks Festival When: July 3, 4:00pm - 10:00pm Where: Ahwatukee Country Club, 12432 South 48th Street in Phoenix Cost: Free Admission Ahwatukee’s 38th Annual Red, White & Boom Fireworks Festival on Wednesday, July 3 featuring Radio Disney’s Rockin’ Roadshow, food, drinks, eating competitions and patriotic games. Best of all, this summer fun event is FREE to the public and includes a booming fireworks display. Benson Arizona 4th of July Celebration and Laser Light Show When: July 4, Parade starts at 9:00 a.m., Laser Show starts at 8:30 p.m. Where: Lions Park, 435 N. Adams Street, Benson Cost: Free! The City of Benson celebrates independence in a classic big way with a family-friendly parade, water fight by local Fire Fighters, and all day fun in Lions Park with vendors, food, music and our first ever spectacular Laser Light Show at night! The parade begins at 9:00 am, following the parade is our popular water fight in Lions Park. We will have a free Jumping Castle for the kids during the day. Fourth of July Whole Pig Cookout When: Thursday, July 4, 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Where: Dos Cabezas WineWorks, 3248 HWY 82, Sonoita, Arizona Cost: $20 for adults, $10 for children (12 and younger) Join us at the winery in Sonoita as we welcome our new neighbor, one of Arizona's favorite chefs - Greg LaPrad. Greg will open his new restaurant in Sonoita, Overland Trout, later this year. In the meantime, we are putting him to work on the patio at the winery cooking for the people on one of the best holidays to celebrate in Sonoita/Elgin/Patagonia. Plan on coming south to check out Patagonia's July 4th parade (11am start time) then head over to our winery in Sonoita for an outdoor cookout dinner (from 4-6pm) before returning to Patagonia for the fireworks at Patagonia High School after the sun goes down. Payson 4th of July Celebration When: Thursday, July 4, 8:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m. Where: Green Valley Park Cost: Fireworks show & games are free to the public! Voted the Best Small Town in Arizona and nestled among the cool pines of the majestic Mogollon Rim - Payson, Arizona comes alive in patriotic colors during its 4th of July Celebration. Whether you are a local Payson resident or a visitor, you will be treated to a show well worth the trip. So bring your chairs, a picnic basket and blanket, or grab some food from one of the vendors that will be on hand and enjoy a day of fun. Cool Off for the Fourth at Arizona State Parks When: July 4th Weekend (and all summer long!) Where: Cooler areas of Arizona! Cost: Fees depend on park With the hot temperatures sizzling Phoenix and other urban areas, there are many places you can go over Fourth of July weekend 2013 to keep cool and relaxed. Many of the State Parks are in the rural areas of Arizona where it can be five to 20 degrees cooler than Phoenix, depending on the elevation. At Arizona State Parks, you can pursue adventures in your own state by camping, fishing, swimming, boating, hiking, watching wildlife, learning about history, have reunions, weddings or other events, and create memories with your family while celebrating America's birthday. There are some campgrounds such as Roper Lake State Park in Safford and Lyman Lake State Park in St. Johns that might not fill to capacity, so those are good destinations. Kartchner Caverns State Park has a summer special where you get a free campsite with the purchase of two adult cave tour tickets (not available online, must call). Reservations for camping can be made 24-hours-a-day at AZStateParks.com or by calling the Reservation Center at (520) 586-2283 between 8am and 5pm.
