Green Cash Mob June: World Oceans Day


June 8th is World Oceans Day!

Seafood in the desert is more sustainable than you think, thanks to local restaurateurs who continue to put ingredients first when they are building their menus.  As awareness builds around the pressing threats that the world’s oceans and fisheries are facing, we see independent food and dining destinations taking the responsibility to be part of the solution.

This month, we are issuing a call to action for Arizonans to support businesses that are leading the charge in responsible sourcing of the fish that ends up on our plates. During the month of June, where World Oceans Day is situated (June 8th), participating restaurants will be serving U.S. caught fish that are green listed on Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Seafood Watch program. Green listed fish are species that are well managed and caught or farmed in ways that cause little harm to habitats or other wildlife. Participating restaurants include Chula Seafood, both their restaurants and their fish market, and Switch Restaurant and

Switch Restaurant and Wine Bar at Thomas Road and Central Ave will be cooking up some pan roasted Oregon rock fish, ancient grains, blue crab and pickled melon. Chula Seafood, at Uptown Plaza and Scottsdale will be serving a variety of green listed fish from sashimi grade salmon from the Faroe Islands to swordfish skewers and their house smoked fish.
