Solutions to address food insecurity are unique for every rural community, though we can learn from the creativity implemented by others across Arizona. This webinar will help you consider how to leverage your community's resources and utilize your role to increase access to healthy local foods and support your hometown farmers. 

Attendees will learn:

  • How elected official can help drive forward policy and projects to improve food access and support small scale farmers and food artisans
  • What various types of collaborative opportunities have been done from local businesses and non-profits from around the state to address food insecurity and raise funds for supporting small scale farmers
  • How to maximize and expand federal dollars to reach rural farmers markets and independent grocers

About our Speakers:

Cara Corbin: Cara's first job was at a small farm in Northwest Arkansas picking blueberries to sell at the Fayetteville Farmers' Market. She loved working with people and food and went on to apprentice on farms in Portugal, Oregon, and Arkansas. She then managed farmers' markets, community gardens, and volunteered on the board of local food non-profits. 

Mila Besich-Lira: Mila is the Mayor of Superior and owner of Miracle Executive Services. Early in her career Mila helped to develop the Legends of Superior Trails Inc. As Executive Director with the Copper Corridor EDC she works with the local gateway communities to help them connect with resources. Adrienne Udarbe: Adrienne is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist and has received numerous national and state recognitions as a nutrition leader. She is a social innovator field by a passion for advocacy and good food. Her career has been dedicated to prevention work with over a decade of experience working with government, nonprofits, and healthcare groups. She excels in facilitating collaborative solutions to complex challenges to shape healthy communities. 

Stacy Raneri: Stacy and her husband David left the hustle and bustle of the backstage catering world in Las Vegas almost 10 years ago to return home to Wickenburg, Arizona where they opened a catering truck. Their work in Wickenburg and Congress, Arizona eventually led them to put down roots in Oracle. The couple saved away and put their culinary skills to use by hosting special dinners for locals where they attracted angel investors who would get to eat one meal a day at their restaurant until they felt they had been paid back. The Patio Cafe opened in Oracle five years ago and now doubles as a small niche grocery market for organic, non-gmo produce and grocery items.
