D.A.Ranch - Reserve Release Recap

Historic D.A.Ranch Lodge & Estate Vineyards Hosted their First Annual Reserves Release

On October 29, the D.A.Ranch celebrated the release of their first reserve wine vintage by opening the doors of the historic 100 year-old barn which is nestled among the estate’s grapevines. The successful harvest themed celebration introduced both the label’s 2014 vintage reserves, as well as several new vintages of the already popular D.A.Ranch mainline wines.  Each of the wines produced by the wine label are crafted from 100% estate fruit, a rarity in the Arizona wine industry.  Additionally, each of the wines are named after a piece of the estate history, such as the Red Barn Red Syrah.

Guests enjoyed music by Arizona native Harry Luge, hearty barbeque by famed John Christ of Wil’s Grille, and vineyard tours by Vineyard Foreman, Andrew Villaverde.  The setting was elegant and picturesque.  The staff friendly, knowledgeable and passionate.  While the beautiful barn bar bustled with guests enjoying the gorgeous weather and setting, many guests opted for the seated culinary and wine experience offered.  In the loft of the historic D.A.Ranch barn, guests were guided by host and co-owner Melinda Petznick through an exquisite paired menu by local chef Abbey Ashford. Guest speakers such as General Manager, Eden Archer and Vineyard Manager (and co-owner of Cottonwood winery Chateau Tumbleweed), Jeff Hendricks added to the interactive atmosphere, each sharing the journey of each wine and the stories of the estate itself.  

It was wonderful to celebrate with our friends, family and our industry partners in what was truly a culmination of a dream and years of dedication. It really was a labor of love for everyone involved. Each vintage shares a piece of our family history and is very personal to us. It was a bit emotional for me to see how far we’ve come and such a joy to share this moment with the local community and our friends and family from the valley as well.

The Ranch plans to make the event an annual occurrence.  

Family Owned for Generations

The D.A. Ranch is owned by the Petznicks, a 4th generation Arizona family who operate one of the oldest privately-owned agricultural and cattle businesses in the state. They purchased the ranch for a family retreat, but quickly saw the potential in the property and planted vineyards with varietals that thrive in the Cornville elevation and moderate climate.  Varietals include Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah, Tannat, Sevyal Blanc and next year’s first harvest of Tempranillo.  Like the vines at the D.A.Ranch, the Petznicks have planted roots here and have begun new traditions that will be passed down through generations.
