Tucson Originals and Local First Arizona are keeping the spirit of restaurateur Pat Connors alive with an award in his honor. Known for his commitment to his community’s many non-profits and an enthusiastic localist, the award includes a $500 donation to the charity of the recipient’s choice and a one year sustaining membership to Local First Arizona. For embodying the kindness, generosity, and commitment to his community that Pat was known for, Michael Elefante of Mama Louisa’s is the inaugural recipient of The Pat Connors Award. Michael Elefante is a Tucson native. He grew up in the kitchen of his family's restaurant helping his grandfather and father make pasta, pizza and sauce from an early age. To widen his experience Elefante worked in kitchens around Arizona including Clayton's Burger Bistro and the Ritz Carlton. The award was presented at noon on April 17th, officially recognized by the Pima County Board of Supervisors as Pat Connors Day, at Mama Louisa’s located at 2041 S. Craycroft Rd. Local First Arizona is proud to recognize the commitment of our local business owners who go above and beyond the support their communities. Pat Connors truly embodied the spirit of creating strong communities through collaboration. He helped Local First Arizona expand to Tucson because the model of local businesses supporting one another was one he deeply believed in. We were proud to know Pat Connors and glad to support his legacy through this annual award. We look forward to working with the future recipients of the Pat Connors Award.
