Fuerza Local to Celebrate Largest Group of Graduates to Date

The newest group of Fuerza Local Business Accelerator Program graduates prepares for a new chapter after completing the series of rigorous business courses. The seventh cohort of the Accelerator Program has been the largest class to date, serving a total of 35 business owners in Phoenix and Mesa. The graduating class will celebrate their completion of the program on Thursday, January 26, from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. at Legends Event Center in Phoenix.

Since launching in 2013, the Fuerza Local Business Accelerator program has graduated a total of 80 businesses over the course of six semesters. The first cohort accepted 12 businesses, and since then the support from the community and local organizations have allowed the program to grow and reach an even larger audience. The eighth cohort, which will begin in February, 2017, will host a total of 60 business across four Valley cities.

“As the program evolves, we’re able to offer more resources to more entrepreneurs,” said Edgar Olivo, Director of the Fuerza Local Business Accelerator program. “These 35 businesses of the seventh cohort now have some of the most essential resources to succeed in the competitive market, and many of them are already seeing the positive impact their experience in the program is having on their company.”

In 2016 alone, the program helped businesses generate $1.4 million in new revenue, and 8 graduates were able to attain over $500,000 in loans for their businesses, making it the most impactful year for the program. Kimber Lanning, Founder and Director of the Local First Arizona Foundation, believed in the program since its launch when there were minimal resources offered to Spanish-preferred entrepreneurs.

“This program is an investment for not just the businesses, but the entire community as well,” said Lanning. “When locally owned businesses succeed, it creates a powerful chain reaction. These businesses, in turn, hire more employees, purchase from more local suppliers, and put more money back into their communities than national and global chains. Plus, these business owners are building wealth in their own neighborhoods and creating a culture of self-reliance that will permeate throughout their community.”

The community is invited to celebrate the achievements of these entrepreneurs at a graduation celebration on Thursday, January 26, from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. at Legends Event Center (4240 W Camelback Rd, Phoenix, Arizona 85019). The event is free to attend and will include a business expo featuring the program graduates, networking opportunities, light refreshments, and the graduation ceremony.
