Adventure, Where We Live - Visit Arizona's Cool Mountain Town

Adventure comes in many forms.  Fortunately, there is one destination right in the heart of Arizona that might just have it all. Home to the largest Ponderosa Pine forest in the world, greater Rim Country encompasses 27 communities to make one remarkable region, jam packed with activities and adventures to explore. Payson, Arizona, part of Rim Country, has just re-branded themselves with a call to the most adventurous among us.

Annual Events Draw Thousands

It doesn't end there. Annual events include the world famous longest continuous rodeo, always the third full weekend in August.  Payson also hosts, to name just a few, the annual Old Time Fiddler's Contest, now over 45 years old, the Northern Gila County Fair, now 60 years old, and the Bee-Line Cruise In Car Show, now 23 years old.

New to the events line-up this year was the first annual Racin in Payson Rubber Duck Race. Presented by Rim Country Regional Chamber of Commerce, 4,000 rubber ducks were released into the big lake at Green Valley Park as a fundraiser supporting Payson Community Kids & the Payson Center for Success.

A Destination for All

Payson and Rim Country are a destination for the family or a blissful, romantic weekend getaway for two. Accommodations are plentiful and diverse. Explore the Mazatal Hotel and Casino or any of the other bountiful hotels, bed and breakfasts, lodges, inns, cabins, and motels - most of which have pools and spas.

There are a variety of dining options, whether you are on business or pleasure. Two local favorites include THAT Brewery and Sidewinders Tavern and Grill  both located in Rim Country's Pine, Arizona just a short distance along scenic highway 260.  If you are looking for a quick snack, incredible espresso or ice cream for the kids, be sure to swing in the famous Scoop's Espresso and Ice Cream cafe.

Payson Area Trails System (PATS)

One of many unknowns and a wonderful way to hike, explore and play in the area is the Payson Area Trails System (PATS) which is an in-progress, interconnecting trail system utilizing detached pathways, existing sidewalks, and bike lanes in Payson to form an interior trail network.  These interior trails will connect to specific Forest Service roads and trails on Payson’s periphery providing a more rustic trail-user experience.

A Campaign of Community Collaboration

The Adventure, Where We Live campaign is a unique collaboration between the Town of Payson, Rim Country Regional Chamber of Commerce, the town's Economic Development Committee, the local business community and other stakeholders.  By working together, this driven team is leading the charge to make Payson not just another pass through town, but a destination for all, especially those seeking adventure. Whatever the experience you are looking for, Payson and Rim Country welcome your excitement and your adventurous spirit.

This is such a great opportunity for Rim Country and while there have been previous marketing or branding attempts, there has never been this kind of connection between the town, Chamber and local business community. So, we are all very excited.
— Chris Bertone, Director, Rim Country Regional Chamber of Commerce

A Stepping Stone

Centrally located, Payson can also be your stepping stone to some other fabulous day trips in central and northern Arizona.  Bruzzi Vineyard, located in Young, Arizona, is a scenic drive from Payson to Pleasant Valley. The Vineyard grow their own wine grapes and an assortment of other seasonal produce.

You can also head to Strawberry, another Rim Country community just west of Payson, and visit Fossil Creek Creamery, where they raise llamas and dairy goats.  They offer goat milk fudge candy for sale, tours of the farm and an opportunity to milk goats and watch cheese and fudge being made.

Be sure to review the other top 5 day trips all within just 4 hours of downtown Payson.
