Teaching Financial Responsibility

MariSol Mural In addition to great benefits, like no monthly fee checking, free online banking, and membership perks only local credit unions can offer, MariSol Federal Credit Union also financially empowers its members through financial education and one-on-one interaction. Offering a range of programs customized to the needs of their members, MariSol provides student checking and a Kids Club Savings Account that can guide children toward stronger financial responsibility, as well as share secured credit cards and free financial classes.

Every month, MariSol teaches financial empowerment classes to its members. These classes are free and cover such topics like: Budget 101, Banking Basics, Predatory Lending, and Credit Management. MariSol Federal Credit Union’s mission is to deliver high quality member services that meet the financial needs of our members while maintaining a strong financial condition. As a financial cooperative, they leverage their members' resources to directly benefit them and the communities in which they live. MariSol Federal Credit Union is committed to financial inclusion and empowerment by expanding access to affordable and equitable financial services for all.

MariSol Federal Credit Union further expands on this mission of financial education through support of the Local First Arizona Foundation's Fuerza Local Business Accelerator Program. This program is a six-month curriculum designed to teach Spanish-speaking entrepreneurs how to run successful businesses. Participants, many of whom have never had a checking or savings account through a bank or credit union, participate in an online eMoneyPool to demonstrate a history of making payments to help save money, and MariSol Federal Credit Union honors this history to allow the entrepreneurs to establish a line of credit. This opens the doors for these entrepreneurs to launch and expand their businesses with a reasonable line of credit rather than attempting to acquire capital through predatory lending practices.
