Last December, I attended a lunch hosted by the North Phoenix Chamber of Commerce and had the pleasure of sitting next to Michelle Kurth, Branch Manager at Desert Schools Federal Credit Union on Bell Rd and 33rd St. I mentioned that when I first moved to AZ 11 years ago, I had my car loan with Desert Schools. Then she told me that they had an auto refinance special until the end of the year with low interest rates.
I had purchased my Fiat 500 C in March of 2014 and through the dealer, got the best loan I could with my credit as bad as it was back then from a bank in California. Now, because of my business loans, my credit score was in the low 700s. I figured I didn’t have anything to lose by applying.
I filled out their online application and was called by a representative in no time. We went back and forth for a while and decided to wait until I made another payment in January. In the end, I was approved and I’m saving over $100 a month!
And I brought the money back to the state! Being a member of Local First Arizona for over a year, I knew that banking in Arizona is important to keeping our money in the state. Not only that, but the success of local banks and credit unions is tied to the success of their communities. The more we prosper, the more the bank benefits so they often invest more back into where they are through small business loans and charity.
I’m planning to move my personal and business banking from Chase to Desert Schools. They have enough branches in the Valley with one down the street from my office. That convenience was an important factor to switching. It was easy and the savings was absolutely worth it!
