Local First Arizona continued our tradition of exploring the unique local shops across the state with our annual Holiday Shopping Road Trip. In our third year of organizing this event, we loaded a bus with bundled up Phoenicians and headed north to downtown Flagstaff for a day of shopping. Our group made a combined economic impact of $2,960 in one day of shopping. We arrived at the iconic Hotel Monte Vista where Flagstaff Mayor Jerry Nabours greeted our group, along with Terry Benelli with the Downtown Flagstaff Business Alliance. Shoppers then headed off to explore the downtown area which is full of locally owned shops offering gifts, artist made products, clothing, outdoor gear, books, jewelry and beauty products. An added bonus was that many shops were participating in the Flagstaff Shop Indie passport, which enters shoppers in a drawing to win shopping sprees in the downtown.
Many in our group of Phoenicians had not spent much time in the downtown Flagstaff area, so we were thrilled to provide the opportunity to introduce them to this fantastic city center. Supporting these shops and restaurants provides jobs and tax revenue for the city, along with supporting the entrepreneurial spirit and creating a charming community. This day of shopping with family and friends was a fun opportunity to spend time with each other, support local and come home with meaningful, unique gifts. If you still have shopping to do, be sure to visit our amazing Local First members in downtown Flag.
