Statewide Project Helps Kids to Have Fun While Learning

logoEarlier this year, Expect More Arizona and a group of arts and culture organizations from around the state launched a unique project to highlight the many learning opportunities available all around us. The goal of the project is to show parents and families how to experience arts and culture venues with their children in rich and meaningful ways. Expect More Arizona is dedicated to showing you how learning can happen anywhere. To make this belief more tangible, Expect More Arizona has partnered with cultural and arts organizations across the state and created interactive activity sheets to show parents how to experience each venue with their children in rich, meaningful and educational ways.

A collaboration like this benefits our state by providing a memorable excursion for children and parents to experience what Arizona has to offer. The community and its members are the beneficiary of uch collaborations. According to the Knight Foundation 2010 Study the availability of social offerings (such as access to culture and arts) was regularly selected as one of the top three reasons people love their community! Engaging children in the culture of Arizona is a fun, educational way to explore your state.

Arizona-State-ParksExpect More Arizona recently announced a major expansion to include select Arizona State Parks, including Catalina State Park, Homolovi State Park, Jerome State Park, Kartchner Caverns State Park, Lost Dutchman State Park, Oracle State Park, Patagonia Lake State Park and Red Rock State Park.

Using Expect More Arizona’s Today campaign as the model, each park has identified learning activities specific to their site, with a focus on things adults can do with children. For example, at Kartchner Caverns State Park, parents can challenge their children to compare a bat’s diet to their own. At Red Rock State Park, youth are challenged to identify different kinds of trees and species of hummingbirds.

Other  local project partners include: Arizona Science Center Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum Children’s Museum of Phoenix Children’s Museum Tucson Desert Botanical Garden Great Arizona Puppet Theater Idea Museum Phoenix Art Museum Phoenix Zoo Pueblo Grande Museum Tucson Botanical Gardens Tucson Museum of Art and Historic Block
