A Look Inside the Historic Glendale Woman's Club

IMG_7065Downtown Glendale's charm is undeniable. Once you park the car and begin walking up and down the beautiful streets you see shops, restaurants and unique hotel and B&Bs, like the GasLight Inn, located right on main street. Traveling off the main drag only heightens the allure as rows of historic cottages, once home to settlers, are now adapted into antique shops and even an ice cream shop named, Papa Ed's! Local First members joined us at the Glendale Woman's Club for our October Evening Mixer, curious to see what it looked like inside. The Glendale Woman's Club has been dedicated to creating a wonderful community since 1901. What started as a few women soon grew into a power force for Glendale as they fought for funding for libraries and city parks for the people of the town.

IMG_7057Once settlers began moving in from the establishment of the sugar beet factory, the club grew exponentially and a formal meeting place was built. Now a historic and beautiful clubhouse, the Glendale Woman's Club continues to thrive and create more community improvements and also rents their venue out for weddings, meetings and more! Rich wood stretches wall to wall with wood flooring spanning the life of the club itself. A newly enclosed kitchen area was once used to park horse-drawn carriages in the time before cars. In Arizona, our history may not span as far back as many parts of the world, but to stand in a building that has seen so many empowering moments is truly inspiring.

IMG_7077Members of the club described its origins and gave business owners a visual tour of the renovations over the years. As we mixed and mingled, both Glendale residents and visitors from across Metro Phoenix were left with quite an impression. Thank you to our hosts at the Glendale Woman's Club!
