According to the USDA, almost 60 percent of people who live in Maricopa County do not have easy access to fresh and healthy foods. With the support of the community and sponsors, a non-profit organization called The Discovery Triangle Development Corporation (DTDC) is bringing produce and veggies to an area in Phoenix considered a food desert, where grocery stores are limited and access to fresh foods are mainly at convenience stores to residents living there.

DTDC has created Fresh Express, a mobile produce market that provides fresh, affordable fruits and vegetables and community health resources to residents in the South Phoenix and Tempe area. Even more exciting, The “Fresh Express by Discovery Triangle” is Phoenix’s first grocery store on wheels, offering all this goodness in a retrofitted Valley Metro bus. DTDC brought together key community sponsors and partners and launched Fresh Express to increase access, availability and affordability of fresh produce for Discovery Triangle residents and to provide health and wellness resources to empower the community to make healthy choices.
