This past Friday Michael Krassner, owner of Cibo Urban Pizzeria, led 40 attendants through a tasting tour of eight famous Italian wine regions.
Beginning at the end of happy hour, 40 wine enthusiasts arrived at Cibo expecting a wine tasting paired with antipasti but what they experienced was so much more! Krassner began the night with a beautifully set table in the semi-private Carriage House of the restaurant and shared a handout with all eight glasses of wine showcased from various Italian wine regions.
Unknown to the attendants, who purchased their tickets for $20 as Localists and $30 to the public, this tasting and antipasti became the value of a lifetime as entertainer-esperto Krassner served appetizer after appetizer to accompany eight (!!!) healthy pours of wine that each person got to taste. The first bottle poured that night was a bubbly, crisp glass of Prosecco paired with antipasto including various prosciutto, salamis, cheeses, other cured meats, elegant purple carrots, and black berries.
As the night got later we progressed from white wines to dark, bold red wines including beautiful bottles from Northwest Italy made by Barbera grapes and from Southern Italy made in Negroamaro ("just YUMMY!!" - attendant, Nancy Robinson). The appetizers continued to be shared family style among the tables as fried zucchini blossoms, arancini, and homemade pasta with olive oil, parsley, and garlic were served.
"It was fantastic! The Carriage House at Cibo was quaint and at the same time elegant. How fortunate we were to have the owner, Michael Krassner, introduce us to some great Italian wines. Thank you Local First and Cibo for this unique opportunity!" says Localist, Rachel Conine.
Localists and devout foodies alike got an unexpected treat at Cibo last week and it was a blast! Cheers to all that came out, and to Michael Krassner for hosting a wonderful night at Cibo Urban Pizzeria!
