The Downtown Mesa Light Rail extension will be celebrating it's first day of operation on August 22nd! To celebrate, there will be a Morning Ribbon Cutting and Night Market filled with local artists, musicians, performers and more!
The newest rail expansion stretches onto Main Street, Glendale, between between Sycamore and Mesa Drive, and is opening 7 months ahead of schedule. This is the first completed expansion since the light rail started zipping through Central Phoenix and Tempe in 2008 and Mesa is prepared to welcome the rail's arrival with over 20 artist unveilings, 60+ vendors, food trucks, and live music!
Vendors include independent businesses such as Bonny Books, Knee Deep Denim, Breezy Pop, Overthrow Clothing, Practical Art and many, many more! Food trucks will be on site including ONe TRUe LOVe and Burgers Amore. There will also be a classic Japanese movie "Attack of the Monsters" playing on LuluBell Toy Bodega's outdoor screen in the Sliver Lot and local Tucson band Chicha Dust will be playing at Prime Cut & Sew!
The festivities begin early with the ribbon cutting ceremony at 8am at the Central/Main St stop, including free shuttle service from 7am - 10am. The Night Market will begin in the (slightly) cooler evening at 6pm until 10pm.
