Local First Goes Behind the Scenes at Total Transit

This blog post was written by LFA Events and Volunteer Intern, Love Mariposa Total Transit, Inc host our July Evening Mixer at their Glendale corporate office.  Inside the unassuming brown building is an incredible collection of taxicab memorabilia and framed colorful vintage posters are displayed throughout the building.

In 198IMG_65634, Total Transit started off with just two cabs, today there are nearly 800 Discount Cabs in operation all over the valley and in Tucson. Total Transit also provides private transportation and transportation management services. Cab companies can have a huge impact on our environment with so many cars on the road, which is why Total Transit is leading the industry with more hybrid cars than any other cab company in North America! They didn’t stop there, though. Total Transit’s commitment to our community has inspired them to implement green practices in every aspect of their business; from the 400 solar panels installed at their headquarters to recycling of paper and metals. Total Transit was featured in the Phoenix Business Journal when they were selected as one of the “Green Pioneers for 2010”, they also received the “Blue Sky Award”. Total Transit also gives back to the community by contributing a portion of its annual net income to fund Total Transit Foundation that donates to a variety of charities such as Save the Family, Homeward Bound, the Wounded Warrior Project and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arizona. Total Transit has been nominated by their employees “Best Place to Work” and won the award two years in a row .

Thank you Amici Caamici cateringtering for providing the delicious appetizers; black bean sliders, fresh veggies, homemade salsa and dips. Members couldn’t get enough and went back for seconds and thirds, which can make networking a little hard when you’re mouth is full, but everyone could communicate with the universal nods of approval.

We start the evening with a Membership 101 Session, which is a free crash-course overview of Local First Arizona benefits. Whether you’ve just joined or have been a member for years, these monthly sessions offer great insights about becoming more involved with Local First Arizona and the local movement. We hold these before every Phoenix Evening Mixer & also online. Click here to register for the next one!

ThiFullSizeRender (2)s month was our quarterly Wist Rebate Donation. Every quarter, Local First Arizona receives a rebate for each LFA member that switches their office supplier to local sustaining member, Wist. We then take half of the total amount and donate it to a local nonprofit who is bettering our community. This month we were delighted to donate $2,000 to One-n-Ten, a nonprofit serving and assisting lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) youth. One-n-Ten creates a safe supportive environmentent for youth of all backgrounds to gather to learn how to improve their self esteem, for discussion groups, and networking opportunities to cultivate leadership skills.

A very special thank you goes out to owner and founder, Craig, and the entire staff Total Transit, Inc who not only were great hosts, but huge supporters of Local First Arizona and the local movement as a whole!  To learn more about Total Transit visit their website by clicking here
