Recently Phoenix Ale Brewery hosted Local First Arizona's May Evening Mixer in their brewery, which was quite fragrant with smell of fresh hops! Members were treated to light appetizers and cold brews from the taproom located on site. Phoenix Ale Brewery started with a dream. Two visionary business owners left the Pacific Northwest to set roots down in the valley to open a microbrewery in Phoenix. After a few false starts, owners George Hancock and the late Greg Fretz were finally able to realize their dream of creating incredible beer on their own terms. After Greg Fretz passed away from cancer in 2013, Hancock continues to run and manage the brewery and has dedicated the Fretzy's Unfiltered Ale to his longtime friend.
One of the most amazing updates shared at our evening mixer was about a recent panel Thomas took part in. The New Orleans economic development council travelled all around looking for ideas on how to cultivate localism and prosperity in their city. After sitting through hours of panels that day, it was hearing about Local First Arizona and the successes we have shared in connecting local businesses together and working with city officials that peaked their interest the most.
"Think about it," Thomas said, "New Orleans is known for its jazz scene, its walkability, its culture and events... and they're looking to us to take our successes back to their city!" It was a powerful moment in the room, in fact there was an audible gasp as members realized they were making a difference, and people were noticing.
Making the trek down to Phoenix Ale Brewery is well-worth it because of their incredible taproom offering guests fresh panini sandwiches and a full menu of beer on tap. It's also a great opportunity to learn more about the brewing process. Go behind-the-scenes with knowledgeable brewers on one of their ongoing brewery tours! (Times vary, check with staff for next available).
We want to thank Phoenix Ale and George Hancock for welcoming Local First Arizona members for one of the more interesting venues for our networking mixers! Don't miss our next mixer as we head to Sole Sports Running Zone in Scottsdale. Click here for details.
