FB_DHT_wm_blu-orange_RGB On March 20th, the International Day of Happiness, Do Happy Today will be hosting free events at Jacome Plaza.  We will be joined by Tucson's Mayor Rothschild, who will be officially proclaiming it the International Day of Happiness in Tucson.  We are also coordinating regional activities throughout the day capped off with a special Happy Cafe at Maker House starting at 5pm.   You can find the most current list of activities on our website.  First recognized by the United Nations in 2013, the International Day of Happiness “recognizes the pursuit of happiness is a fundamental human goal and the need for a more inclusive, equitable and balanced approach to economic growth that promotes sustainable development, poverty eradication, happiness and the well-being of all peoples.”

idhJoin folks across the globe commemorating this important day.  Everyone can participate by downloading our Do Happy Today “happy face” and connecting through social media and/or participating in our live activities. Please join us in this effort through our website, Facebook page or by sharing your own happy activities with the hashtag #dohappytoday.  The regional effort includes Mt. Lemmon, our local fiscal agent, Casa Libre, Tucson city offices, wards and departments, several small businesses and schools, diverse non-profits and member-organizations such as: Fourth Avenue Merchants’ Association, LocalFirstAZ, the Neighborhood Support Network, Hacienda Del Sol Resort, and the Downtown Tucson Partnership. We are expanding the collaboration throughout the year and expect March 20, 2015, to be just the first of many years of Do Happy Today celebrations in the Tucson region and in Arizona. Do Happy Today was organized in July 2014 by volunteers from diverse community organizations and interested individuals in order to promote personal and community happiness, focusing on, but not limited to, the International Day of Happiness. Since last summer, we have been offering online monthly Do Happy Today themes, national and global social media. Our Do Happy Today online Mindfulness Challenge participants are from more than 17 different countries as well as throughout the United States. A national collaborator, generates 21 days of mindfulness prompts hosted by Do Happy Today and the challenge is available here. Sign up to join us in this mindfulness challenge!

In 2013, a happiness/well-being survey by Gallup and Healthways rated Arizona No. 31 among the states. In 2014 Arizona moved up to No. 20 so we are moving in an upward direction! Do Happy Today wants to help raise that number for Arizona to be in the top 10 in the next three years and we are working with partners who are promoting activities, programs and policies for a stronger, more just, sustainable and local economy—one of the four primary “pillars” for Gross National Happiness.
