Flagstaff Craft Brewery Supports Social Change- One Pint at a Time
Historic Brewing Company has announced their commitment to social entrepreneurship by donating pint sale profits to Arizona’s Saint Mary’s Food Bank. There are many Arizona companies whose business models revolve around the idea of “giving back” to their local communities. Historic Brewing Company, Flagstaff’s newest brewery, has decided to lead this movement in Arizona craft beer by donating proceeds to Feeding America, a nationwide charity that allows dollars to be funneled into local communities of the donor’s choice. Historic Brew Co has chosen Saint Mary’s Food Bank to be the recipient of their charitable donation under the campaign name Brew for Bread. For every dollar donated to Feeding America, ten meals are served to families in need. For Historic Brewing Company, this means for every pint served over their bar, five meals will be served. Historic Brewing Company started this campaign the week of Thanksgiving 2014 as a “holiday food drive.” Over the course of five weeks, the brewery raised enough money to feed 8,307 meals to local families. This number was so shocking, the company has decided to keep the campaign rolling throughout the 2015 year and even extend it into their new retail locations scheduled to open in downtown Flagstaff this Spring.
Historic Brew Co (est 2013) is a family owned and operated craft brewery located on the East side of Flagstaff, AZ. The brewery specializes in excellent craft beer and not taking things too seriously. They are self-proclaimed “makers of craft beer and awesomeness," which pretty much sums up their movement towards social entrepreneurialism.
Along with the launch of their Brews for Bread movement, Historic has also recently launched a “Random Acts of Awesomeness” campaign, encouraging their fans to participate in the nature of giving by sending in photos of acts of kindness. The brewery will be giving away tee shirts and hats to people with the best photos of their Random Acts of Awesomeness. Other charity campaigns include their Winter Warm-up Project, collecting coats for charity as well as initiatives to promote bicycle riding to the brewery. The brewery hopes to lead by example, promoting and encouraging others in the craft beer industry towards structuring their business models towards social entrepreneurialism as well. Historic Brew Co will be opening its first Barrelhouse and Bottle Shop in downtown Flagstaff in the Spring of 2015 featuring rotating specialty barrel-aged beers not sold through distribution. They will be partnering with Paul Moir of Proper Meats + Provisions to create a food menu designed to pair with their rotating beer selection. The Barrelhouse will make a point to source all food locally to support local AZ small business.
