With all of the Halloween festivals going on, don't forget about another very special celebration Dia de los Muertos!This Mexican holiday is a three day tradition that will be celebrated across Arizona! Join the Local First Arizona members as they prey and remember their ancestors who have past.
TUCSON & SOUTHERN AZ
Feast with the Dearly Departed When: October 25th, 5 - 8 p.m. Where: Tucson Botanical Garden, Tucson Mariachis, sugar skulls, dancing skeletons, kids activities, delicious Sonoran food, libations, a beautiful garden setting and face painting. General admission: $8 adults, $4 children and members: $4 adults, $2 children.
Art Festival Day of the Dead When: October 31st & November 1st, 9 a.m. Where: The Raven's Nest Face painting, Navajo Indian taco fry bread, and homemade chili burritos are just some things that you will find at this festival! Join them for a garlic cook-off on Saturday at 11 a.m.
Dia de Los Muertos and Fall Harvest Festival When: November 1st, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Where: Arivaca Cemetery, Arizona Parade to the cemetery during the Fall Harvest Festival for live entertainment and Mexican food.
Face Paint Town When: November 9th, 2 - 6 p.m. Where: The Hotel Congress, Tucson Get your face painted for free benefitting Many Mouths One Stomach. Full-face sugar-skull madness, food & drink specials. Take your freshly painted dead face down to the parade and come on back for the after party!
All Souls Procession When: November 9th, 4 p.m. Where: Tucson The Procession was created by the community of performance artists and painters and sculptors of Tucson as a way to honor the dead. Join the parade through the community in your costume.
NORTHERN & GREATER AZ
Day of the Dead Celebration When: October 25th & 26th, 90 a.m. - 5 p.m. Where: Museum of Northern Arizona, Flagstaff Celebrate Mexican cultural traditions in a festive and vibrant setting at the 11th Annual Celebraciones de la Gente, a lively festival of the Day of the Dead. Festival admission is $10 adults, $9 seniors (65+), $7 students (with ID), $6 American Indians, $6 youths (10-17) and children 10- are free.
Marigold Mural Project When: October 28th - November 1st Where: Tlaquepaque, Sedona Join us in our third year as we create another incredible public mural in the Calle Independencia where visitors and community members can honor the loss of loved ones in their lives and connect with one another though art and public expression. Free event.
Day of the Dead When: November 2nd, 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. Where: The Smoki Museum, Prescott Mariachis, ballet folkloric, Mexican baked goods, homemade tamales, and a cemetery procession at one are among the plans. We’ll have a children’s craft area, face painting, vendors and fun! Free admission.
PHOENIX METRO AREA
Exhibition of Ofrenda When: October 24th - November 2nd, 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. Where: Desert Botanical Garden, Phoenix View original Ofrenda installations by local Arizona artists that have been created specifically for this exhibition. Free for members or with general admission.
Dia de los Muertos When: October 25th, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. & October 26th, 12 noon - 5 p.m. Where: Mesa Arts Center, Mesa The Day of The Dead festival will feature delicious foods, a colorful mercado featuring an assortment of Dìa de los Muertos merchandise, jewelry, arts and crafts. Two stages of live entertainment with a variety of excellent performing groups and much more. Free admission and parking.
Dia de los Muertos PHX When: October 26th, 1 - 6 p.m. Where: Margaret T, Hance Park, Phoenix Together we will honor our ancestors and celebrate our heritage and traditions. Cuisine and Culture When: October 30th, 6:30 - 8:30- p.m. Where: Desert Botanical Garden, Phoenix Join the celebration with a delicious evening as they unveil the secrets and cultural traditions of Dia de los Muertos. La Procesion When: November 2nd, 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. Where: Desert Botanical Garden, Phoenix This year, La Procesión will feature new elements as well as the traditions of placing candles at the memorial triptych, honoring loved ones, and enjoying traditional music and dance.
