June's issue of the Arizona Jewish Post is all about local. From the best local pizza shops in Tucson to a feature of the Tucson Museum of Art's recent exhibit, the Arizona Jewish Post lets readers know the best local places to be this summer. The Post also features an editorial from Local First Arizona Tucson Coordinator Erika Mitnik-White on how supporting local businesses strengthens local communities:
"Studies have shown that for every $100 you spend with a local business, about $43 stays here as opposed to just $13 when you spend that same money with a national chain. More money in our towns means more local job creation... A 2002 study by Civic Economics shows that if a community roughly the size of Tucson shifted just 10 percent of its spending to local businesses, it would create 1,600 new jobs, $50 million in new wages and $137 million in new economic activity — all in one year."
When you pick up the June issue of the Post, not only will you be treated to these powerful stories of local business success, but you'll also receive a special surprise: a Golden Coupon that you can use during Independents Week June 29 - July 6 for 20% off select purchases and services at participating businesses! Tucsonans can use their Golden Coupon a day early on Saturday, June 28, at the Passport to Local Success in Downtown Tucson. Attendees will receive a shopping passport listing 20 local merchants along 4th Avenue and Congress Street. Attendees will receive a stamp on their passport for each business visited, and passports with five stamps can enter the Local First Arizona raffle drawing for baskets filled with great items from some of Tucson’s local businesses. There will be tons of great activities throughout the evening, click here for more information.
While flipping through the Arizona Jewish Post, we noticed that quite a few Local First Arizona members are featured as advertisers, including Tucson Originals, Alfonso Gourmet Olive Oil & Balsamics, Proper, La Cocina Restaurant, Reilly Craft Pizza, Rocco's Little Chicago Pizzeria, Vero Amore, Queen Creek Olive Mill, Lotus Massage & Wellness Center, Tap & Bottle, & Copper City Inn. We always love seeing local businesses supporting local publications and media. They know that to reach the locals, they should advertise locally! Plus, their advertising dollars go directly towards supporting local jobs at the Post.
