Local florist, Inglis (rhymes with Pringles) Florists have been helping Tucson residents since 1940. The current owners, Paul and Michael Butterbrodt are second-generation florists who took over for their parents, Don and Rita Butterbrodt. Don and Rita had purchased the original business, Tom Inglis Flowers in 1967, having worked for Tom Inglis since their arrival in Tucson in 1950 and changed the name to Inglis.
“It’s a very family oriented business,” comments staff member Nyla Contreras. “Because of that we treat our customers like family. They know that they can count on us for every occasion, happy or sad; weddings, proms, funerals. We care about helping them get what they need.” Nyla recalls frequently seeing multiple generations come in to their store for flowers. “I’ll have a grandmother call me up to tell me that we did the flowers for her wedding back in 1954 and now she wants to order flowers for her granddaughter’s prom that are just as nice.”
As a longtime, local business, Inglis understands the importance of serving the community and other local businesses. “We do what we can to support our local businesses as much as possible by utilizing local suppliers and businesses whenever we can,” says owner, Michael Butterbrodt. “We are continually educating our customers as to the savings and advantages of ordering through us rather than large national order gatherers. Customers receive far better service and don't pay unnecessary service fees. And more of every local dollar spent stays in our local economy.” Nyla agrees. “I tell everybody to always use a local florist, whether it’s us or someone else. The difference is that you will always get what you pay for when you shop locally. You aren’t talking to a call center, you are talking to the people who will fulfill your order and care about getting it right for you.”
Inglis has three locations in Tucson. The original location is part of the Sunshine Mile district, a thriving community of locally owned businesses that stretches down Broadway from Euclid to Country Club.
