Spring weather in northern Arizona can be quite changeable. What this means is that it can be 85 degrees one day, and can snow the next! The most recent mixer at Fossil Creek Ranch in Strawberry closed out the last snow of the spring season and kicked off a true spring fever. After a snow fall over the weekend, the weather cleared and we had a beautiful, crisp and sunny afternoon on Tuesday, April 29th for our first Rim Country Local First Arizona mixer! This outdoor event was held at Fossil Creek Ranch and we had a record attendance: 35 local business and community members, 6 youths from the community and 97 baby goats! The event was hosted by John and Joyce Bittner from Fossil Creek, and also by Tamara and Steve Morken of THAT Brewery in Pine. Guests had an up front view of life on a goat dairy farm and got to take part in a true Arizona agritourism experience. The Bittners graciously hosted us while the goats were being milked, while the babies were bottle fed and while their daily operations at the ranch kept moving like clockwork.
Steve and Tamara from THAT Brewery sampled many varieties of their locally-brewed beer and discussed the businesses' exciting new expansion to Cottonwood. Later this summer, THAT will be expanding its brewing facilities to a space close to Old Town, and will be opening up a second tasting room in that facility. They will still maintain the Pine location, but this additional brewing space will also allow them to eventually distribute their beers to a wider audience, and also allow them for space to can their beer.
Other local business representatives included members of the Pine - Strawberry Business Community organization, and the Rim Country Regional Chamber of Commerce. Local First Arizona is excited about the new partnerships formed with these two entities and other local businesses in the Rim Country. Local First Arizona is looking forward to our next Rim Country mixer later this summer - date and location in August TBD - and we are looking forward to getting involved in the Rim Country Community of local, independent businesses!
You can find Local First Arizona at the Pine Trails Day event, held on Sunday, May 4th at the Pine Trail Head, and you can also listen for Local First Arizona on KRIM Radio on May 13th! Stay tuned to our newsletter for more of our whereabouts in the Rim Country, northern Arizona beyond!
A special thank you to the local businesses who joined us on Tuesday!
