There is a new inaugural spring event in Cottonwood. Held on May 2nd and 3rd, the Run for the Roses Spring Festival brings a whole new type of fun community event to Old Town. This Bootleg Derby will be held on the same day as the Kentucky Derby, and will allow visitors to don their best derby hats and join the fun on Main Street in Cottonwood. The festivities will kick off on Friday, May 2nd with the Bootlegger's Ball, featuring The Sammy Davis Band. The ball will be held at the Civic Center in Old Town, beginning at 7:00pm. To buy tickets in person, visit the Business Assistance Center (BAC), Cat's Meow, Red Geranium, Pink Rain and Burning Tree Cellars. Tickets can also be purchased online, and picked up at the Business Assistance Center (BAC) in Old Town up until 4pm the day of the event.
On Saturday, May 3rd the Run for the Roses Cottonwood Bootleg Derby will feature free live music, a fine art & vintage faire, along with a horseshoe tournament, hosted by the Cornville Cartel (as seen on Arizona Highways). The main event of the day is the sawhorse race, sponsored and decorated by local merchants and businesses. During this event, wooden sawhorses will be raced through Main Street and spectators are encouraged to place friendly bets.
