AZ Culture, in partnership with the Cottonwood Economic Development Council, Old Town Center for the Arts, Old Town Association, and Local First AZ will present the Cottonwood Culture Challenge. This inaugural event will take place in historic Old Town Cottonwood on May 17, 2014 and will feature a scavenger hunt/reality video project and contest involving over 200 participants and will include activities such as, wine & beer tasting, skydiving and horseback riding (on a first come first serve basis), art demonstrations, historic tours, food sampling, and live music & entertainment.
Made possible by a one-time 2014 state budget allocation through the Arizona Commission on the Arts, the Cottonwood Culture Challenge is part of the Community Catalyst Grant program, which was designed to make significant investment in Arizona’s small and rural communities through local arts organization-led partnerships.
AZ Culture is proud to bring the Cottonwood Culture Challenge to historic Old Town Cottonwood for the first time. Live action footage of the Cottonwood Culture Challenge will be captured by a team of videographers, a drone, and 10 contestants wearing GoPros, and will be used as a marketing tool to attract tourists to the area. All contestants will compete for prizes donated by local merchants, while enjoying everything that scenic Old Town Cottonwood has to offer.
The cost to participate in the Challenge is $150. This includes roundtrip bus transportation from Phoenix to Cottonwood on a luxurious coach bus with high back bucket reclining seats, AC, AM-FM stereo, on-board restroom and CD-DVD players with drop-down TV's. Additionally, the entry fee covers all activities from 9:00 a.m. to midnight, including meals, awards ceremony, and after party.
Registration, additional sponsorship opportunities, event details, prizes and updates are available on the event website: www.cottonwoodculturechallenge.com or by calling Juliana Brutsche at 602-882-5196.
A sneak preview of activities will be featured at a kick-off event on Friday, April 25 at the Icehouse in downtown Phoenix from 6:00 -10:00pm. The $10 entry will include a performance by Fat Tree (www.fattreemusic.com) as they celebrate the release of their new CD, artist demonstrations, a cash bar, and a showcase Old Town Cottonwood wines, merchants, and activities. Proceeds from the kick-off will also benefit Old Town Center for the Arts.
“Partnerships between arts and non-arts organizations can be effective drivers of economic development, cultural tourism, civic pride, neighborhood revitalization, and youth engagement,” says Arts Commission Executive Director Robert Booker. “An investment in such partnerships is really an investment in the whole community.”
