Gallery 527

This is a member spotlight for Gallery 527 and the Jerome Art Walk in Jerome

Gallery527Gallery 527 in Jerome is a collective of Northern Arizona's finest artists. Housed in an historic, renovated home, this lovely space is filled with paintings, fine craft, ceramics, jewelry, glass and photography. Owned by Ken and Donna Chesler, who are both member artists of the gallery.  Ken works with a large format camera and spent twenty years as one of the leading yacht photographers in the world. Today, Ken focuses primarily on Black and White landscape photography in the Southwest. Donna is a mixed media artist whose unique techniques can be seen with pieces such as her emulsion transfers on handmade paper.

Gallery 527 and the Cheslers have been instrumental in founding and organizing the Jerome Art Walk, a monthly exploration of the town's galleries and studios. Jerome Art Walk is the first Saturday of every month from 5 to 8pm. The small mountain community boasts 25 galleries and studios and has been a unified group for 8 years. With the support of local merchants, the Town of Jerome and the Historical Society, this well-known event has become one of the highlights of the calendar of events.

Sedona landscape artist Susan Pitcairn will headline Gallery 527's First Saturday Art Walk reception April 5 from 5-8 p.m, with a presentation of recent pastels and acrylics from travels throughout Arizona and California. Fresh from visits to the coastal California ranch of Santa Barbara painter Marcia Burtt and from an annual teaching expedition to Saguaro Lake Ranch near Phoenix, Susan will present a variety of subjects and places to her more typical Sedona and Verde Valley subjects. At 6 p.m. she will read 3-4 recent poems inspired by these works. Known regionally for her painterly style and accompanying poetry, the artist has been featured in recent years at the Sedona Plein Air Festival and has published several books of paintings and poetry.

Bird House JeromeArtWalkIn April, the members of the Jerome Art Walk have collaborated on a creative celebration of spring, featuring birdhouses created by local artists. On Saturday, April 26th, Jerome Art Walk hosts an event that merges the two. Fifty artists will create birdhouses, most from the same basic kit, each with its own theme and personality. The masterpieces will be sold at Spook Hall in Jerome from 10am to 5pm. The price will be $55 for most birdhouses with a few special custom designs selling for more. The sale coincides with the Verde Valley Birding and Nature Festival in Cottonwood on April 24-27. This event at Dead Horse Ranch State Park raises the profile of the Verde River and its rich ecosystem. Last year’s event recorded the sighting of 198 species of birds. A portion of the profits will be donated to the festival.
