Local businesses supporting other local businesses is the key to closing the loop and keeping more dollars circulating in the local economy! This series highlights local businesses that go the extra mile to demonstrate an excellence in localism. Many nonprofits have that one pinnacle event of the year to raise money for their organizations and causes, whether it's a gala, a festival, a dinner, or awards ceremony. The main focus is usually to raise as much money as possible to cover costs for the upcoming year, but the Children's Museum of Phoenix is placing a special focus on the community and celebrating other local businesses for their Kids at Heart Gala on April 5.
"The Children’s Museum of Phoenix was founded by community members who believed that it should serve as a gateway to other cultural institutions and community programs," said Brandi Devlin of the Children's Museum of Phoenix. "It was community support – much of it from local businesses and foundations – that enabled the Museum to secure the Monroe School as a permanent home and bring the historic building back to life as a place for families to discover the joy of learning through play."
In this spirit, the Children's Museum is taking the opportunity to highlight local restaurants, breweries, and wineries at their gala this year. "Through their creations and libations, Arizona’s talented restaurateurs, vintners and brew masters represent all that is great about the Arizona food scene – local ingredients, various cultural influences and unique desert climate," said Devlin. "Many of these artisans and business owners are 'kids at heart' in their approach to their culinary creations; they 'learn through play' just like Museum visitors do. The Kids at Heart Gala is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the Valley’s varied culinary talent and provide an event in which attendees can 'learn' about these local businesses and talk with those who 'play' with ingredients to create unique flavor combinations."
Some Local First Arizona members who will be featured include the Cafe at Phoenix Public Market, District American Kitchen and Wine Bar, Arizona Stronghold Vineyards, Pillsbury Wine Company, Page Springs Vineyards & Cellars, Burning Tree Cellars, and Lawrence Dunham Vineyards. Usually the food and beverage offerings at these types of events can be pretty average, but you'll know you'll be well taken care of at the Kids at Heart Gala!
