Member Spotlight for Northern Arizona: Simon’s Columbian-Style Hot Dogs
While most red-blooded Americans best knew Sunday, February 2nd as Super Bowl Sunday, Simon’s Hot Dogs in Sedona also celebrated four great years of serving Arizona with unique, delicious Columbian-style hot dogs.
Located inside Oak Creek Brewery, Simon’s offers gourmet, special recipe beef, vegetarian, and vegan hot dogs, making it the all-American one-stop-shop. Fittingly, the namesake Columbian (pictured left) is Simon’s most popular dog, topped with sweet pineapple, mozzarella (or soy cheese for vegans), a special house sauce, and finished off with crushed potato chips to give this American favorite that South American flare. Given its unique tastiness, it’s no wonder that the Columbian was named among 13 other hot dogs as one of the most unusual franks in the country by Conde Nast Traveler on it’s list of “The United States of Outrageous Hot Dogs” last July.
Other menu favorites include the Hola Amigo, which is topped with creamy avocado, cream cheese or tahini, and jalapenos, and the Tokyo Madness, which is topped with teriyaki onions, wasabi mayo, and toasted sushi nori for a dog that is packed with flavor and, despite the wasabi mayo, is not spicy at all. Maybe you’re in the mood for a bratwurst? Simon’s has those, too! Along with sauerkraut, chili beans, nachos, and even a meatball sandwich.
You also don’t want to miss out on the Maicitos, which is Simon’s signature Columbian appetizer that combines a deliciously cheesy mix of sweet corn and bacon bits and topped with…you guessed it….crushed potato chips! This cheesy concoction can be easily made vegetarian sans the bacon, just as nearly Simon’s entire menu is easily customizable for varying dietary needs and preferences.
Next time you’re in the Sedona area, be sure to stop in and congratulate Simon’s and enjoy a gourmet dog. And while you’re there, don’t miss out on Oak Creek Brewery’s award-winning microbrews. Because what goes better with gourmet hot dogs than a nice, cold beer?!
