Member Spotlight for Northern Arizona: Grand Canyon Winery The Grand Canyon Winery is a small, family run winery and tasting room located in the historic district of downtown Williams, AZ, the “Gateway to the Grand Canyon.” Established in 2011, the Grand Canyon Winery is one of Arizona’s youngest wineries, and it is passionate about making wine that they, and their customers believe in - quality wine, locally crafted, using the best ingredients. A simple idea done well. This simple idea is making headlines and it's making a name for itself in the national wine scene.
Three of their wines won significant awards in 2013. Their wines competed at the Jefferson Cup Invitational, held in Kansas City, Missouri, which is the only competition that honors the best of the best among wineries from all of America’s wine regions. In a competition of over 700 wine submissions, the 2012 Traveler White Chenin Blanc was awarded a Gold Medal of American Excellence and the 2012 Voyager Syrah Blend took a Silver Medal of American Merit. These wines, as well as their 2012 Traveler Red Zinfandel Blend also took awards at the 2013 Arizona Republic Wine Competition.
The new year also brings exciting changes. Beginning February 1st, they are moving to a new tasting room, located at 138 W Route 66, and are scheduled to be up and open by March 1st. In their new venue, they will be not only offering wines from Grand Canyon Winery, but will also pouring craft beer flights from Historic Brewing Company and offering small plates, desserts and coffee. It is right next door to one of the family's other restaurants, Station 66 Italian Bistro. Grand Canyon Winery's new location will be the first winery tasting room to serve craft beer in the state.
Still, there's more in store for 2014. They will be releasing five 100% AZ wines this year, so go ahead and wet your taste buds. These wines include the 2012 Wanderlust Chardonnay, the 2012 Dreamer Cabernet Sauvignon, 2013 Traveler Red Zinfandel Blend, 2013 Traveler White Chenin Blanc, and the 2013 Voyager Syrah Blend. Grand Canyon Winery is producing fantastic wine that is making a name for its self throughout the state and nationwide. The next time you're in Williams, stop in for a wine - or beer - tasting.
